DAVID A. PATERSON, GOVERNOR · DAVID J. SWARTS, COMMISSIONER
Commissioner David J. Swarts of the Department of Motor Vehicles today announced that Michael Margott, a Motor Vehicle License Examiner from the Utica Testing and Investigations Unit, has been recognized as Examiner of the Year for New York State.
Motor Vehicle License Examiners (MVLE) are DMV staff dedicated to ensuring new drivers have been properly trained to handle driving situations they may encounter. The MVLEs are the state DMV staff who witness and score a beginner driver's road test. There are 140 MVLEs statewide that annually conduct more than 565,000 road tests.
Each year, the International Driver Examiner Certification (IDEC) Executive Board and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recognize outstanding examiners from each state through the IDEC Examiner of the Year Award. Each member jurisdiction nominates one examiner for their outstanding performance, of which Mr. Margott was selected.
"Earning Examiner of the Year for New York State is truly an honor," said Commissioner Swarts. "It is the hard-working people like Mike who make the DMV an agency that keeps driver safety and customer service at the forefront. We applaud him on this prestigious award."
Examiners are selected for their excellence in adhering to the principles and recommended best practices of driver examining and for their high level of conduct in the practice of their profession. Mr. Margott has been an employee of New York State since 1978. He began working for the Department of Motor Vehicles in 1981 and has been a Motor Vehicle License Examiner (MVLE) since 1990.
Recently, Mr. Margott was officially presented the award by DMV executives at the Utica State Office Building.
