FAQs about the Requirements and the Restrictions for this Transaction:

How long will it take for an accident report to be available on-line?

The amount of time required to process accidents reports and to make the reports available from the DMV varies based on the location of the accident and the method used by the police agency to report it. If you search for a report based on the NYS DMV accident case number, a vehicle plate number or a driver license number and the report is not available, the DMV is required by law to charge the $7.00 search fee. The fee cannot be refunded.

A search fee is not charged if you enter the date and county of the accident to see a list of accident cases on file for that date and county. A search fee is charged if you select an accident to search for from the list.

Carefully read the information below before you attempt to search for an accident report.

Normally, accident reports filed by police agencies become available from the DMV as follows:

Normally, for accident reports filed by motorists, regardless of the location in NYS, allow at least 60 days from the date of the accident to search for the report.
